Heating help is open. Pennsylvania’s LIHEAP season started today, Monday, November 2, and runs through April 23, 2027.
LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, helps income eligible households pay winter heating bills. Cash grants run from $200 to $1,000, based on region, household income, heating type, and household size. A household gets one regular cash grant per season, paid straight to the utility or fuel provider. It does not have to be repaid.
Households facing a heating emergency can also get crisis grants, from $25 up to $1,000 for the season. That covers situations like having no heat, or being within 15 days of losing heat because of a lack of fuel or a shutoff. Crisis requests go through the County Assistance Office, which has to authorize each one.
To apply, go to compass.state.pa.us, contact the local County Assistance Office, or call the LIHEAP helpline at 1-866-857-7095.
Northeast residents can also get help in person this week. Rep. Jared Solomon, the Energy Coordinating Agency, and Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association are holding a LIHEAP kickoff on Friday, November 6, from 10 AM to 1 PM at OCCCDA, 900 East Howell Street. The day includes processing of LIHEAP and utility applications, a PGW conservation workshop, and free DIY kits. Call 215-342-6340 for details.
