The Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade is back for its 49th year, and organizers want your float, your marching unit, or your community group in it.
The parade steps off Sunday, November 22, at noon on Frankford Avenue, running from Rhawn Street to Knorr Street. It is one of the Northeast’s oldest fall traditions, bringing generations of families and friends to the avenue each year, with many former residents returning to reconnect with the community they call home.
This year’s grand marshal is Torresdale Flower Shop, with owner Antoniette Montgomery. The shop has served the community for 70 years, with Montgomery as owner since 2000.
Local businesses, schools, organizations, and community groups are encouraged to enter a float, a marching unit, or another parade entry. After the parade, organizers will award a ribbon for the Best Parade-Themed Float.
The application deadline is Friday, November 13. Entry forms are available at thanksgivingparade.org, and questions can go to info@thanksgivingparade.org.
Organizers also need banner carriers. Volunteers must be in seventh grade or above and will receive six community service hours. Interested students can email info@thanksgivingparade.org.
For families along the route, children are encouraged to bring their letters for Santa. Toys for Tots will be collected at Frankford Avenue and Knorr Street, and Scouts will collect food donations at the Philly Pretzel Factory, 7366 Frankford Avenue.
Donations to support the parade are accepted through PayPal and Venmo, with links on the parade’s website.
