The 15th Police District has a new officer for the problems that wear a neighborhood down: the abandoned car, the all night noise, the illegal dumping.

Sara Fishburn, the district’s new nuisance quality of life officer, was introduced at the 15th Police District Advisory Council meeting on October 26, alongside Capt. Marques Newsome and community relations officer Hamidu Tunkara. Fishburn previously worked in police radio and in the busy 12th Police District in Southwest Philadelphia.

Residents at the meeting did not wait long to give her a list. Complaints included slow 911 call center answering times, loud music from a house on Hartel Avenue, loud noise from patrons of a Princeton Avenue bar, a long-abandoned car on Vandike Street, squatters on Tulip Street, illegal dumping on the 2800 block of Sandyford Avenue, and violent crime near Penn and Pratt streets.

State Rep. Joe Hohenstein attended the meeting, along with aides to Sen. Joe Picozzi, Councilman Mike Driscoll, Rep. Jared Solomon, Controller Christy Brady, and Sen. Tina Tartaglione.

Residents with a nuisance vehicle or an illegally parked truck or tractor trailer to report can also go to the Philadelphia Parking Authority’s Neighborhood Enforcement Unit at 215-683-9620 or PhilaPark.org/Enforcement.

The advisory council meets next on November 30 at 6 PM at the Mayfair Community Center, 2990 St. Vincent Street.
