A family painting class on Wednesday and a neighborhood ghost tour on Friday close out the Fall for Tacony series, and both are free.
Fall for Tacony is not over yet. After Saturday’s big street festival on Torresdale Avenue, two free events remain on the calendar this week: a family painting class on Wednesday and a neighborhood ghost tour on Friday.
First up is Painting With A Treat with Bob Dix on Wednesday, October 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Tacony LAB Community Arts Center, 6918 Torresdale Avenue. The class is open to families with children ages 8 to 16, and artist Bob Dix will lead participants in creating a fall-themed painting. Like all Tacony LAB classes, there is no tuition and no fee of any kind.
Families can enroll in person at the LAB, online through the LAB’s Eventbrite page, or at the class itself if space is still available. If you plan to sign up on the day, arrive 15 minutes before the class starts. The LAB allows a 15-minute grace period for late arrivals, but classes run only two hours, so latecomers may not be able to join once the session is underway. Questions about enrollment can go to the LAB at 267-686-7420.
Then, on Friday, October 30, Tacony Together hosts the Tacony Ghost Tour with Amarynth, a one-hour walking tour around the neighborhood sharing Tacony’s spooky history. The tour runs from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the group meets beforehand at Marie Huff Hairdressing, 6934 Torresdale Avenue. The guide is Amarynth Ruch, Tacony Together’s corridor manager. The tour is listed as free on its Eventbrite page, making it an easy Halloween eve outing for neighbors who want the season’s spooky side without leaving Torresdale Avenue.
Both events are part of Fall for Tacony, the season-long series of free neighborhood events organized by Tacony Together. The series’ main street festival took place on October 24, and these two events are the ones still to come.
One practical note for Friday: no rain plan for the ghost tour was listed, so check Tacony Together’s event page before heading out if the weather turns. For the painting class, space is the only real limit, so early enrollment is the safer bet.
If you go, you are supporting the same neighborhood corridor the series is built around, and both events are close enough to walk to for much of Tacony. Bring the kids Wednesday, bring your curiosity Friday, and enjoy the last of fall on Torresdale Avenue.
